My dear husband David frequently reminds me that the heart of Christmas and the heart of Christianity can well be summed up in John 3:16. Actually that verse has been called “the Gospel in a nutshell”. So here it is:
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
In 2005 I wrote this poem:
God’s Love Song
It’s a song of hope, it’s a song of love;
It’s a song from the heart of God above
That the angels sang that Holy Night
To the shepherds who wee filled with fright.
It’s a song of joy that conquers fear;
The Messiah of our God is here!
A song of peace to the souls of men
Who let that Prince of peace to men.
It’s a song of hope and joy and peace,
Of the love of God that will not cease/
Oh meet Him at the manger thee
And worship Him who answers prayer!
Of peace and joy and hope and love
Of the Spirit descending like a dove
Hear the Father speak, oh hear Him well:
Unto you is born Emmanuel!
In Him who IS Love,
