PEACE: An Advent Devotion-Poem

By | December 16, 2019

Centuries before Jesus was born, Isaiah foretold His birth. He prophesied: “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and His name shall be called Wonderful. Counselor, The Mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6). Prince of Peace!

When I wrote a very similar poem a number of years ago, the world was in a mess of wars in the Middle East. Today, it seems that the world is in an even greater mess. How can we talk about peace? Well, take a look:

Sleep In Heavenly Peace?

Sleep in Heavenly Peace?
Bombs exploding every day
Children molested as they play,
Violence on every street,
Murdered youth fall at our feet:
And you say there is peace?

Sleep in Heavenly Peace?
Drugs pour in from everywhere
Atheists who scoff at prayer
Babies aborted with few to care
And you say there is peace?

YES! Within a cattle stall
Lies the Peace that’s offered all
The Prince of Peace has come to stay,
“But how?” i hear the critics say.

How when all these things abound
Can true peace anywhere be found?
There’s peace of soul when we’re forgiven,
Peace that brings abundant livin’!

And then, we too can treat each other
As we should, as befits a brother.
Come and learn the way of Peace
Let His forgiveness be your release.

Rest thee well, my friends!
In His Peace,
Graceblest

The poem is perfect; the subject is depressing.
I wish the world were much difference.
    Fortunately, it will be, soon.

    COME QUICKLY, LORD JESUS!
