What do you believe is God’s stance on artificial insemination? In case you aren’t familiar with this process, it’s when sperm is purchased from a bank and introduced into a woman to get her pregnant.
Wanting To Know
For a Christian man and wife? No… I’m not trying to be legalistic, but plain spoken here. When a man and wife join together to be one flesh, then the blessings of that marriage (children) are to be the result of the union of that one flesh. Matthew 19:5 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? 19:6 Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. and then: 1st Corinthians 7:2 Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband. 7:3 Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband. 7:4 The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife. 7:5 Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency. Plainly put, the wife, accepting the seed of a strange man is in fact the act of adultery, and the husband allowing it is just as guilty.
If God has joined a couple together and that man, for whatever reason, is unable to cause conception, then it’s probably Gods will. So what does a Christian couple do? James 1:27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world. Adopt a child or two or three or four!!!
It’s hard to find knowledgeable people on this topic, but you sound like you know what you’re talking about! Thanks
So you’re saying that if a Christian woman is artificially inseminated its like committing adultery? I never thought of it that way but the sperm does belong to someone besides her husband. Good article.
If you want to be technical about it, adoption should be a “no” as well. If your logic is that the conception must occur between husband and wif only, then adoption shouldn’t occur because if I adopt a kid, that kid is also not a “product of conception” between my wife and I, either.
That’s just plumb silly. There’s nothing wrong with adopting and raising children who aren’t your own. That’s just an act of love for others.
But your logic is that artificial insemination is “wrong” based on the fact that the conception didn’t occur between a man and his wife. You blast that as sin. Well, an adopted child is not the product of conception between the man and his wife that adopted the child. Why is that, then, not wrong?

I think you got your wheel stuck in a rut there Aaron. Pure religion, as defined by the scriptures says; that we are to take care of the fatherless (orphans) and widows. There is absolutely nothing wrong, immoral, or adulterous about adoption. James 1:27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
What I suggest is that you start a thread on PCIM https://parsonscorner.org/answers/ and we can see just what bee you may have in your bonnet about this. OK?
My wife did just remind me that if the artificial insemination comes from the husband himself, there would be no problem with that as far as either of us can see.
Well they told Kert and I we would have to do this – but after 18 years we were blessed out of the blue. I think God does things in his own time – and I don’t believe God makes junk or would give life to something that isn’t meant to be. Just a personal opinion. We chose to wait and now I have 2 beautiful boys.
