What Are You?

Hey Timothy, narrow it down for me please. Are you Southern Baptist, American Baptist, Independent, or some other variety I don’t know of? From your site I can’t tell exactly what you claim to be.

Well, let see!!! How narrow do you want it???

  • I’m located in the Southeastern U.S. and I am Baptist so you could possibly call me a Southern Baptist, although I’m not a member of the Southern Baptist Convention. Neither is the church I pastor.
  • I do live in the Southeastern United States of America so you could possibly call me an American Baptist.
  • And it is impossible to be a Baptist church without being an independent body with Christ only as the head, so you could even say I’m an Independent Baptist.
    • You could call me all those things and be hitting the mark. But the facts are I and my family are just plain ole Baptists. No labels here, simply Baptist.

I and my family believe in supporting missionaries and ever since the first Baptists came into America they were missionary minded. So if you wanted to put a label on me please say “Missionary Baptist” which originally were called Anabaptist’s. That’s the “variety” as you put it, I am. I’m surprised that you couldn’t tell this from the website. Actually the best title you could put on me is “Christian“! Acts 11:26 And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.

Yep, I had to throw some scripture in. Amen?
