Suicide

What is your opinion of suicide? I’m not considering it but do know some who are or have done it.

The taking of ones life is wrong by any means. For the lost, it means placing themselves in hell quicker than was appointed to them. For the Christian, it means stealing something that does not belong to them. Here’s why…

The scriptures tell us that each and every person born is going to die. There is an appointment! Hebrews 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: That time that’s set for us to meet our maker. Ecclesiastes 7:15 All things have I seen in the days of my vanity: there is a just man that perisheth in his righteousness, and there is a wicked man that prolongeth his life in his wickedness. 16 Be not righteous over much; neither make thyself over wise: why shouldest thou destroy thyself? 17 Be not over much wicked, neither be thou foolish: why shouldest thou die before thy time?

But specifically to the Christian to take their own life is theft. The Christian no longer belongs to themselves. They belong to God. Consider the verses below and you can clearly see the point I”m making here. These verses are talking about fleeing from fornication, but look at the point made about who we belong to:

  • 1 Corinthians 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God”s.

Thanks for answering my question. Could you elucidate a bit. Some traditions teach that suicide is an unforgivable sin. (Roman Catholic is one, but there could be others.)

There are others that teach this but frankly, there’s only one unforgivable sin Cloud and only one; not accepting the Lord Jesus as your personal Savior. There can only be one. Jesus said: Matthew 12:31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. 12:32 And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.

To blaspheme is to take something Holy and treat it as something common and or unnecessary. The Holy Spirit is our agent for salvation. When we resist Him to the point of saying to ourselves we don”t need Him, we don”t want Him, or that He is unnecessary in our lives, then there is no hope of forgiveness at the end of our lives. The act of committing suicide is not the act of the unpardonable sin. The act of suicide is ending our lives. Plain and simple. If a lost person does this, then they have “also” committed blasphemy of the Holy Spirit because they died in their sins. The saved person can’t do this! They’ve already accepted the call of the Holy Spirit and are then bought with a price. (1 Corinthians 6:19) Therefore, their sin is covered by the Blood of the Lamb.

That doesn’t mean they won’t have to answer to the Savior for what they did by no means… 1st Corinthians 3:12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; 3:13 Every man”s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man”s work of what sort it is. 3:14 If any man”s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. 3:15 If any man”s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire. Anything that’s sin that a child of God dies with will be burnt away! I promise you.
