Christian Walk
Q. It's been six months since I moved into a new position at work, and I cannot stand my boss!! I really need help.
A. I know this is going to sound so cliche but here we go any way. I personally
don't think there are accidents in a Christians life. Otherwise we need to
remove Romans chapter 8 from the scriptures which I have no plans of doing
myself. With that said, it's more than possible that you are there exactly
where you are for the greater glory of God. [Timothy (The Parson)] Originally posted on the Bible Forums
Q. It's been six months since I moved into a new position at work, and I
cannot stand my boss!! I really need help. Reply #1. Hey Juice, ever watch the Movie 9 to 5? Well, whatever they did, please don't do. It sounds like you are in a position where alot of the blame is shifted to where it shouldn't be shifted. What was surprising to me is that you are able to tollerate it. Or are you? Gotta question or two or three or four or five:
The Parson Responce #1. Thanks for replying, Parson. I did see 9 to 5, and don't worry, I'm not about to set off an uprising at my workplace. LOL! Quote: 1. What sort of field are you in? I work in the media. Quote: 2. What makes you say you are so surprised because your boss is a practicing catholic? Sorry, that was a cheap shot on my part. It's just that people tell me "you can't really blame people for their actions when they don't know the Lord, and don't have access to His resurrection power, because they're prey to their worldly desires." So, supposedly, I would hope that someone who is Christian would try to behave better. There's also the question of his witness at work, since people know he's Catholic. But I guess that's really none of my business. I hope I didn't offend anyone with my comment, and I apologize for saying it. Please excuse me. Quote: 3. Does this job demand you do anything against the scriptures or your conscience? Hm ... good question. Well, I don't want to end up doing his work, that's for sure. And I don't want to go along with his lies or appear to go along with his lies (the ones about him doing so much work). He has this way of saying things so that you'll give him an affirming response. Like he'll say, "Whew! I'm doing so much work today!" Then he'll look at you expecting sympathy.
Also I don't like listening to him bash other managers. So ... it's not like he's asking me to embezzle money or anything. It's more like I feel uncomfortable. I don't know if any of that is going against scripture; perhaps you can tell me.
Quote: 4. Have you searched the scriptures to find the answer in prayer? Philippians 4 seems to have a lot to offer in this situation, both bringing requests to the Lord and thinking of things that are excellent, praiseworthy, etc. Also, to be wise as a serpent but innocent as a dove. (I'm approaching my breaking point on that one, if I haven't already crossed the line. ha!) And certainly to treat our enemies with kindness. It's just so hard sometimes ... I'd like to ignore him, but it's hard.
Quote: 5. What sort of chain of command do you have at work? We have a department head, and above him, the owner of the company. That's it. I'd been advised not to rat on my boss, especially because people do seem to get along with him, but I don't know ...
Anyway, I appreciate your questions and welcome additional insights... Try to answer these questions as completely as you can. Don't leave out anything and lets see what we can find out. Maybe even help I hope...
Q. In life, we often hear the old quote by Thoreau, "If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps he hears a different drummer". Where, in the Bible, can I find the equivilent that explains that the believer might be walking a different path and acting differently because he hears God's drumbeat. A. The idea that a believer listens to a different drummer is seen throughout the entire Bible. This is why Christ Himself was persecuted - He would not walk according to the program that the Pharisees and other Jewish leaders had set for the people. It is because of this listening to God that many believers will not be accepted by their peers - even by other believers, at times. This seeming individuality makes them appear odd, strange, or, as the Bible puts it - "peculiar." The Word of God, in I Peter 2:9 says: But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light. This peculiarity is marked, not by some weird quirk of their personality, but because they have heard the call of God, and have left the insignificant things of this world, to follow a new and Heavenly call. The majority of this world are not following God, but walk in darkness. Once saved, we become as light - and these two will never see eye-to-eye when it comes to the things of God. Abraham was called to serve God and his family (relatives) thought that they might go with him. God told him to leave his relatives and he disobeyed. Grief was added to Abraham's life because he tried to listen to the voices of both worlds. This lack of acceptance that comes because we follow Christ is the "cross" that our Savior said we must bear. He said it like this in Mt:16:24: Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. So, in order to be a real disciple of Christ, we will often walk alone. For this reason we need to seek out real Christian friends that will try to help us to serve Christ, and we should be able to find some in a good Bible preaching church. Our Best Friend, though, should be Christ, and outside pressures should help us to draw even closer to Him for strength and power, and acceptance and love. Mike Valles, Evangelist
Q. I can't seem to get into reading Gods word. My spiritual life is an up and then down the next day experience. I'm losing my mind..I want so much to live right but I feel defeated...........help [Anon] A. My dear friend, lets count the "I's" & "My's" in your question. 5 is what I see there. Seems there is no one else mentioned in your posting. Wonder why you feel defeated? Start putting Jesus in the places where you put "I" and "My" and see what happens.
Do you realize that your Christian walk is really a stage of choices and that reading Gods Word and living your Spiritual life is a discipline? It is a progression if you will of the following stages:
I'll leave you with this. Works don't save you but your salvation is accompanied by works: James 2:20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? So: Phillipians 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. Everything mentioned above is your choice and no one else can make those choices for you but you. So choose to do what is right, live for God and don't let the flesh hinder you. James 4:17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin. [Timothy]
Q. How much influence does one's culture and demographics have on one's relationship to God? There seems to be very much a co-relation between a persons first encounter with Christianity and what the person believes and his peculiar form of worship, this regardless of his or her study of the scripture and prayer life. The question we must ask ourselves is, Do I believe as I do because I am lead by the Holy Spirit, or am I being led by a doctrine of man? [Richard] A. Not knowing how you believe Richard I can't answer your question directly but can answer it in a way you can come to your own conclusion with the help of the Holy Spirit. To start we need to come to three passages of scripture: Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. 10:14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? 10:15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! Now how do you suppose that this sent preacher gives you this "gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things"? By the preserved Word of God. 1st Peter 1:24 For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: 1:25 But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you. The Scriptures. The Bible puts it this way: 1st Corinthians 1:21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. Simply put, a preacher preaching directly from the scriptures who is not adding mans traditions and dogma to the mix is the way we hear the undefiled Gospel & the Holy Spirits call to become saved. Then, thereafter we measure all preaching we hear in the Holy Spirit as our guide: Romans 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. 8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. 8:16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And this is how we would know that we are being lead by the Holy Spirit and not by the doctrines of man. [Timothy]
Q. I need some serious help I dont know where to turn please try to help me. Is it possible to be punished by god? I feel as if Jesus has it in for me can this be true? I'm 24 yrs old and have a great family and friends. I was born again 2 yrs ago and before then everything in my life was perfect. I met a women in church and later broke up with her and couldn't return to that church for my own reasons. Every since then I've been living in Hell. I met a new women got married bought my first house. I've always been in great health all my life but back in November I had a stroke that caused me to loose my job and now I've been seriously angry, any little thing sets me off I'm abusive to our animals and I've never been like that. Everytime I pray something bad happens immediately after. Could god be punishing me for leaving church and not finding another? I'm afraid to do anything, I can't feel love like I used to the things I used to love to do now I dont care about. I've stayed strong my wife knows little about all this I DO NOT release my anger on her or around her. I know I need some kind of counseling or something but I cant pay the bills I have now and help is exspensive. Please tell me what I can do. I'm starting to not care for my life as well. I feel like everything would be better for me and everyone around me if I was dead. I believe in God and as praying seemed to make things worse for me I quit and I've even started blaming things on God. I dont want to live like this what can I do? [Anon] A. Wow, seems you have somewhat of a situation there! It also seems that you are under some sort of ordeal too! You yourself said you were born again 2 years ago and I take your word for it. As a matter of fact what you are telling me may be strong evidence that you are indeed saved. Hebrews 12:6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. 12:7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? 12:8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. Get my meaning? If that be so then it seems that God most likely has a purpose for you that He has ordained. God knew before you were born that you would accept the free gift of Salvation that is free to all. Foreknowing this, He already had a task for you to complete as His servant. Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. 8:29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. 8:30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. Look at the following list and see if any of it might apply to you and your situation:
If I were you my friend, and I say this in all love, I'd quit looking for hidden causes and look at the obvious around you. Email me back and we'll investigate this further. OK??? Your servant in Christ Jesus, [Timothy]
Q. Is it right for women to read the Scripture in the public worship service of the church? [Dave] A. In the public Worship Service, no. This is where many hold fault with the old tyme Baptists is that we believe that if we are told in the Bible not to do or allow something to happen, we don't! Because we held to the teachings of Paul who was the Evangelist and Apostle who, by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit gave us the guidelines for the New Testament Church! 1st Timothy 2:11 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. 2:12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. 2:13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve. 2:14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. 2:15 Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety. No, this doesn't apply just to the time of Paul but this set of passages and the entire New Testament for that matter, is just as true today as it was then! [Timothy]
Q. Hello Parson, Thank you in advance for your answer. My question concerns how I should handle my relationships with my homosexual friends. I am newly saved and have never been gay or desired that lifestyle. My friends are very dear to me and I don't want to give them up. I had a very hard time accepting Jesus because of the Christian attitude toward gays. Once I realized I needed to keep my eyes on Jesus I was saved. Now here's the problem...my Christian friends are disapproving of my gay friends and the rest of the people in my life fear me because I am a Christian except for my gay friends. What is going on?????? I am feeling very confused. Thank you, [Cheryle] A. Hello Cheryle, your quite welcome for the answer and I hope that you are willing to listen to exactly what the scriptures say because if you will notice, I will not give you anything but a scriptural answer, so hold on to your hat. The choice your friends have made, in the fact that they have "chosen" a life of Sodomy, is a very frightening thing to those who reject this type of behavior. Notice I said (a life of Sodomy) instead of a gay lifestyle. It isn't a lifestyle, but a slap in the face of Creation and the Creator Himself. God made man and from man made woman as his companion. Genesis 2:7 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. & Genesis 2:21 And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; 2:22 And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. 2:23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Later, after the flood, men became very wicked and lusted after men and women after women, this was an abomination to God because of His intentions for His creation. God's Law in Leviticus states plainly Leviticus 18:22: Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. and also, later in Romans 1:24: Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: 1:25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. 1:26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: 1:27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. 1:28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; 1:29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, This is what your Christians friends probably have a problem with. They do forget to hate the sin and not the sinner! Now, if you will indulge me a minute, maybe I can shed some light on your confusion of what to do with the help of the Holy Spirit thru the Scriptures. We have, as Christians, both Born again and lost friends in this world. The Christian brethern we are to minister to and with in the Body of Christ. The lost ones, we are to witness to and not partake of any part of their sins or even to be where we might be considered as partaking of their sins. 1st Thessalonians 5:21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. 5:22 Abstain from all appearance of evil. I'm sure you realize that this will limit the amount of places you can go to with your homosexual friends. But do not forsake the witness of Jesus Christ to them! Our Savior went to the "sinners home" to dine & visit with them and when he left, they were converted and repented. Matthew 9:10 And it came to pass, as Jesus sat at meat in the house, behold, many publicans and sinners came and sat down with him and his disciples. 9:11 And when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto his disciples, Why eateth your Master with publicans and sinners? 9:12: But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick. 9:13 But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. Now, let me bring one thing to your attention. The Savior never went into a brothel to witness to a whore and He didn't ever go into a tavern to witness to a drunk. No charge for that, I just thought I'd mention it! Remind your Christian friends of yours and their responsibility to witness to the lost and remind yourself that you should not do anything or go to any place which will damage your testamony. Don't be confused! Be determined to win your lost friends and by all means, protect your own testamony! [Timothy]
Q. Praise God for the work that you are doing in spreading the gospel to the world. My question is this. If faith without works is dead, then how is it that we can not be saved through our works so that no man can boast? [Thomas Veira] A. With the Holy Spirit residing in us, we are urged to good works. The verse's you are refering to are: James 2:17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. & Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. Salvation without the Fruit of the Spirit being made evident in our lives is what you will find these two separate writers talking about. First James, who was saying that the two go hand in hand. Once we have the faith to accept Jesus into our lives then the evidence of this faith will be good works. Secondly Paul, who was telling us not to get works confused with the faith needed to be saved. And what is the Fruit of the Spirit that is made evident in the lives of the born again Christian? Galations 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 5:23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. 5:24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. 5:25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Peter had somewhat to say about the works of the saved. 1st Peter 2:12 Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation. The evidence of your good works are a shield to you that would stop those that would falsely accuse you. Understanding the explaination above, also know this. We cannot save ourselves because we are not righteous enough to even think about doing it ourselves. Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; and also Romans 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: 3:11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. 3:12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. [Timothy]
Q. What is worldlyness? [Anon] A. Worldlyness is acting as the world does. Not acting as a set apart Child of God. James 4:17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin. The scriptures teach us that we are to be seperate and not a part of this world. Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Titus 2:11: For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, 2:12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; 2:13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; [Timothy]
Q. I need to know what you're view point is on this. Do you think that it is a sin for born-again, Bible believing Christians to drink alcohol? Is it honestly pleasing to the Lord? Let me know what you think. Talk to ya later. April A. Good question April! Wine was a drink used quite often in biblical days because of the condition of water. Since wine would ferment and keep for years it was used as a drink but not to access. It was even used as a cure for a sour stomach! 1st Timothy 5:23 Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities. Liquor is used for mostly one purpose, to feel good and to escape reality. That's why Solomon wrote in Proverbs 20:1 Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise. and also in Ephesians 5:18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; Also consider what will happen to your testimony if you drink around those who are offended by it. That goes for anything that will offend except the Word of God. 1st Corinthians 8:10 For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the idol's temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols; 8:11 And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died? 8:12 But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ. 8:13 Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend. Personally, as a Christian, my belief is to avoid all temptation. Sometimes this isn't possible but with the help of God you can at least flee from the temptation. Consider this last verses in closing your answer and see what you think since your asking the question makes me think that you believe there is something wrong with drinking. 1 st Thessalonians 5:21: Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. 5:22 Abstain from all appearance of evil. 5:23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Your Servant in Christ Jesus, [Timothy]
Q. I am only 13 years old and have recently faced with many trails and heartaches. I have been continouosly told that God will never put more on you than you can bare. Where in the scripture is that found, and why do I feel as if I can handle no more heartache? [Kim] A. It is very pleasing Kim, to read this question from someone of your age! It seems like there are more pressures on today's teenagers than has ever been before. To seek out the Lord to help you in these things is in my mind the only way to handle your pain and heartache. These attacks are from the devil and are intended to have you take your eyes off the Lord most probably! The scripture I believe you are looking for is 1 Corinthians 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. The Lord will not allow any evil or temptation to come before you that he has not given you a way to escape it! If there is an evil that is haunting you, we are simply told to stay away from it! 1 Thessalonians 5:21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. 5:22 Abstain from all appearance of evil. 5:23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 5:24 Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it. If you have been saved, you have the most powerful tool to ward off evil and that is the shed Blood of Jesus Christ. Once we are saved we have the right as children of God to call upon him for help and claim the Blood. God "WILL" answer your prayers and set things right the way he see's fit. Pray to him and ask him to deliver you from the troubles and pain that is against you and the Lord will answer your prayers! He will take care of the problems "HIS" way which will be the right way. We will be praying with you. [Timothy]
Q. When is a child accountable for their sins? Are they condemned because of their sin nature or are they innocent until they choose to sin? Please send me as much information about this subject as you can along with scripture. Thanks [Jerry Truett] A. That's a good one Jerry! Lets start by saying that we are wrapped in a body that is corrupted by sin. It's natural for us to sin. A child, when they learn that something is not right and decides to do it anyway, they are sinning. James 4:17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin. This child has to be taught that certain things are bad or forbidden or unacceptable. Otherwise they will do whatever they please. How many times have you been out somewhere in public and seen a little one throwing a temper tantrum or raising havoc and the parent seemingly not doing anything about it? God's word tells us that if we don't teach a child to do right, we actually are saying that we hate them. Proverbs 13:24 He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes. This doesn't mean that we are to take a telephone pole and beat them about the head and ears. We don't dare injure these little ones. Simply put, when you place your finger over a candles flame, you get burned and draw your hand away. Will you place your finger over it the second time? No, I don't think so. You have learned that this is something that you don't like and you probably won't want to do it again because it hurt! It's the same principle with paddling your child. We don't do it because we want to, but because we love the child and want them to remember that if they do this kind of behavior again, there is an unpleasant experience waiting on them. Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. Now, are they accountable to God for their sins? God has given this child to you to bring him or her up in the way they should go. That's why God ordained the family and placed the Father at the head and the Mother as his help mate! This is who that child is accountable to. And that Mother and Father are accountable to God. Ephesians 6:1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. 6:2 Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;) 6:3 That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth. 6:4 And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. The parent is accountable to God if he or she doesn't teach the child right from wrong. Until this child learns that they are lost and undone and need Jesus as their Savior, they have not yet reached the age of accountability. Romans 4:15 Because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression. They don't know that they are going against Gods law until they come to the understanding that they are. If that child dies before the Holy Spirit convicts them of their sins they will go to Heaven. Luke 18:15 And they brought unto him also infants, that he would touch them: but when his disciples saw it, they rebuked them. 18:16 But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. 18:17 Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein. If you will indulge me for a minute, let me quote to you some words to a song that I can't remember the name of right now but they seem to fit. Its lyrics tell about some kids who get in trouble and the parents have to face the results of their kids actions: Push the panic button. Call the doctor, call the preacher. Blame his generation, blame the high school teacher. Walk the floor and wring your hands and use God's name in vain. Then look into your heart and find the ones who are to blame!!!!!!!! [Timothy]
Q. My question is, Do you believe once a person finds their true self and opens their heart and mind to God that He they can communicate with you if they have work for you? Do you know when Saint Andrew was born? [Anon] A. I'm not sure exactly what or of whom you are asking and if this answer doesn't fit, email me back and I will go deeper into the subject. If you find your true self, then you have come to realize that you were lost and if you were lost you need to find out how to be found. And if you have found the way to be found then you realized that Jesus is the only way to be found! If you accept the Lord as your personal Savior by believing on him then you become a new creature and are no longer the old. This new creature is able now through the leadership of the Holy Spirit to understand the will of God and the works that he has in store for him or her. When we become "saved", we accept the Lord Jesus as the only source of leadership we need. By receiving the Holy Spirit into our lives we now have him as a guide to carry us through this dark world. Each one of us know through the leadership of the Holy Spirit, who to see, what to say, and what to do! The Scriptures is the road map and the Holy Spirit is the navigator. Romans 8:13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. 8:15: For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. Matthew 16:24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. 16:25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. James 2:24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only. 2:25 Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way? 2:26: For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. [Timothy]
Q. What does the bible say about interracial dating? Leonard Chambers A. Nothing about dating but the Bible does carry some strong examples about what happens when different cultures try to meld or join together. All through the Old Testament, the Hebrew people were told to be separate from the world. They were also told not to marry outside their people. Not all of them paid attention to this as we can see with Solomon. But lets first look at the Biblical account of how the peoples and races of the world originally became different. I direct you to the account of the tower of Babel. Genesis11:1: And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. 11:2: And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there. 11:3: And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter. 11:4: And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth. 11:5: And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded. 11:6: And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. 11:7: Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech. 11:8: So the Lord scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city. 11:9: Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the Lord did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the Lord scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth. This at least tells me that God himself separated us and scattered us abroad. That it is Gods place, not mans to put us back together! This is a subject that has caused some contention, even racial hatred and mistrust! No matter what the race, creed, or color, we are to treat a brother or a sister in Christ the same as any other child of God. The Holy Spirit will guide a born again believer through such questions and for me to say no, it's wrong or yes, it's ok would be to try to tell you what the Holy Spirit has to say to you in these matters and only God has the authority to do that. Pray about it! Timothy
Q. Is it okay to date a non- Christian [Charles Grossman] A. Would a Christian want to date a non christian? Yes, it could happen. Would that Christian try his best to win that man or lady to the Lord? Yes, I would hope so. And if that relationship led to marriage, I would hope that the non Christian would have been won to Christ, the Messiah through the love of the Christian. If that couple came to me to have me perform the marriage ceremony and the non Christian had not been won to the Lord as of yet, I believe I would be led to explain to them that the scriptures tell us in 2nd Corinthians 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? 6:15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? This is not to say that I would not perform the ceremony, I would just caution them that If the unbeliever decided to leave and divorce the christian that the scriptures also tell us that if the unbeliever should decide to depart that the believer is not under bondage. You can find this in 1 Corinthians 7:12 But to the rest speak I, not the Lord: If any brother hath a wife that believeth not, and she be pleased to dwell with him, let him not put her away. 7:13 And the woman which hath an husband that believeth not, and if he be pleased to dwell with her, let her not leave him. 7:14 For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but now are they holy. 7:15 But if the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases: but God hath called us to peace. 7:16 For what knowest thou, O wife, whether thou shalt save thy husband? or how knowest thou, O man, whether thou shalt save thy wife? [Timothy]
Q. What makes those people who go to church any better than me? I am a good person, I don't steal, cuss, break any laws, or anything like that. Who says God will send me to Hell just cause I don't go to church? [Anon] A. Those people that go to church aren't any different than you except alot of them have been saved! Now there is a good word! "SAVED". God is the creator of the universe and also of man. He is a just and riteous God who cannot and will not sin or look upon sin. God said, Allright, Man has committed sin because of the fall from the Garden of Eden. He has accepted the curse of sin "read the first chapter of Genesis". Now remember that God will not accept sin so he asks for a sacrifice. Sacrifices were made of lambs, cattle, goats, and the best of all their animal possessions. Quite frankly though, they weren't good enough. So God sent his son as the ultimate sacrifice for our sins. "John 3:16". He died on the cross of Calvary so that you and I might be acceptable to God. Once we accept the Lord Jesus as our personal Savior, God doesn't see sinful man! He see's the Blood of Jesus. Those people in church are there because they want to be where they can hear more about their Savior. At least most of them are. But the Scriptures tell us in "Hebrews 10:25" To forsake not the assembling of ourselves together. Just because they go to church doesn't get them saved. All of them have to accept Jesus as their Savior or they will not go to Heaven to be with God forever! By the way, God doesn't send you to Hell, you do by not accepting his gift of salvation! "John 3:17 & 18". [Timothy]
Q. What are your views on divorce and remarriage in regards to elders and deacons [Anon] A. 1st Timothy 3:12 Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well. is the scripture that comes to mind. During those days having more than one wife was not unheard of. As a matter of fact, in some Asian Countries it was considered a symbol of wealth to have more than one wife. This is known as poligimy. That wasn't the focus though of what Paul was trying to tell Timothy, I don't believe, although it defiantly would fit. God intended for one man to join to one woman to become one! Not one man to join to two or more women. The scripture for this is Mark 10:6 But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female. 10:7 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife; 10:8 And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh. 10:9 What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. I also believe that when a man puts away his wife in divorce except for the reason of adultery, or as in the Bible "fornication" and marries again. He still has a living wife. Therefore he would have more than one wife or would be polygamous! Christ told us in Matthew 19:8 He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so. 19:9 And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery. Not only is it the requirement of Deacons and Pastors but it also looks like it is the guideline and requirement for all christians. No, I am not saying that if you are divorced, you can't be a christian! Deacons, Elders, and Pastors (Bishops) are supposed to set an example for all the congregation. Also as christians we are to set an example to the world. As for me, I told my wife that if she ever left me, she would have to take me with her, because sooner or later our God given love and bond would bring us back together. This is a subject that is deeply rooted in my own heart because someone I love very dearly has been married over and over again and says that they are justified because of the reason of fornication. (It was on their part also.) Two wrongs do not make a right! The only ways that we are released from our vows of marriage are (1) Luke Chapter 20 - One of the spouses dies or (2) Matthew 19:8/9 - if one of the spouses commits adultery or(3) 1 Cor. 7:15 - If an unbeliever chooses to leave their believing husband / wife. Now I have to ask you if you think that you are required to divorce if one of the spouses commit adultery. If I were to answer this question then I would say no. Christ died on the cross for our sins so we may be forgiven. He also expects us as Christians to forgive as we were forgiven If the offending spouse has repented and asked forgiveness. Why can't folks learn to forgive each other and mend the wounds that arise when one is unfaithful to the other. God Forgives us doesn't he? It may seem that I covered alot of territory with this question but there is alot to consider when a question of the Christian walk is concerned. [Timothy]
